The Short Coat Shampoo is tailored for short and smooth-coated dogs, like french bulldogs, beagles, pugs and boxers. Short coated dogs tend to have more sensitive skin; our short coat shampoo’s gentle formulation is free from harsh chemicals and made with argan oil to help preserve the skin's natural oils, moisturize effectively and provide a shiny and smooth coat. The formula also helps tackle shedding by loosening dead hairs.
The key for grooming a dog with a short coat is to make sure you wash them with a shampoo that is specifically formulated for their coat type (like our 3-in-1 short coat shampoo!), and won’t dry out their skin. You also need to dry them properly so their skin doesn’t stay moist (especially in areas like between their paw pads), which could lead to problems.
They do! Short coated dogs tend to have more sensitive skin; our short coat shampoo formula is specifically made with non-irritating and moisturizing ingredients so you don't need a separate conditioner.
They do! They need a shampoo that helps moisturize their skin, as it tends to be more sensitive and drier than other coat types. A shampoo that tackles shedding is also beneficial for short haired dogs.
If your dog is scared of baths, you’re definitely not alone! We recommend starting small, and introducing your dog to the bathtub or shower beforehand (with lots of treats!) so it’s less scary for them. When they’re comfortable, up the ante by turning the faucet on and keep making small steps while letting your dog get familiar with this new (and scary) situation. Always make sure the water is at the right temperature (not too hot or too cold to be uncomfortable), and give your dog something to focus on while you wash them (again, lots of high value treats!). Adding a mat or towel to the bottom of your bathtub can also help your dog feel more secure (they aren’t used to the slippery feeling) and less afraid.
Giving your dogs lots of positive reinforcement, for example with their favorite treats, and making the experience as easy and stress free as possible are typically things that will help calm your pup during grooming. Our 3-in-1 shampoos help shorten the time required for baths by removing some of the steps involved in the process (like using a separate conditioner), which contributes to making the experience less stressful for your dog.
This is a tricky question as it really depends on your dog’s breed and sensitivity. Typically it’s recommended to wash double-coated dogs about 2-3 times a year, except if they get seriously dirty (hello spring time and mud pits!). For short-coated dogs, a maximum of once a month as they tend to have more sensitive skin. Fur curly-coated dogs, every 6-8 weeks with regular grooming is generally sufficient. If you like to bathe your dog more often, Earth Rated shampoos are formulated to condition the coat and to avoid drying out the skin.
Our 3-in-1 shampoos are perfect after a messy adventure or for routine baths. You can use them after hikes, lake days, or playtime in the mud to thoroughly clean your pup’s coat, remove stubborn dirt, and eliminate odors while conditioning the skin and fur; or when it’s simply time to give your pup a good bath. You can also use our shampoos during heavy shedding periods, as they help manage shedding by loosening dead fur, leaving the coat smooth and easier to brush.
Wet your dog and ensure the water penetrates through the fur to the skin. Apply shampoo from the back of the head down the body, toward the tail and don’t forget the legs and belly. Massage gently in circular motions, ensuring it reaches down to the skin, letting it sit for a few minutes. Avoid the eyes, ear canals and nose. Rinse thoroughly.
I’ve got some great news! Our 3-in-1 shampoos’ gentle formulation is hypoallergenic and free from harsh chemicals.
