Earth Rated offers two different types of poop bag options:
Certified Compostable Poop Bags
These compostable bags are made from a blend of vegetable starches and PBAT and meet the ASTM D6400 standard for municipal composting as well as the EN13432 Home and Industrial standards for compostability. So what does that mean? If we look at the most stringent standard (EN13432) in a Home Compost environment, then at least 90% of the material will have degraded within 12 months at room temperature. This is obviously accelerated if you add the same material to an Industrial composting environment where there is larger control of heat and moisture.
If you’re using municipal compost, be sure to check whether pet waste is accepted in your local composting facility before dropping a bag full of poop in your compost bin. And if you are using a home compost bin, be sure to not use the resulting compost on food crops.
Dark Green Poop Bags
Our dark-green coloured bags are made from PE and for countries outside of the EU/UK, contain the Totally Degradable Plastic Additive (made by EPI) and fall within the definition of oxo-biodegradable. The TDPA additive is added to the bag mixture and allows an acceleration of the breakdown time (60% degradation within 24 months) when the bag is exposed to anaerobic landfill conditions (heat, oxygen, agitation and moisture). It is super important to properly dispose used poop bags in the trash. That way it’s destined for landfill and will be within a controlled environment exposed to the right conditions to breakdown.
